Calm & care
Calm & Settle Foundations
Rewarding genuine relaxed behaviour — not a forced position or frozen stillness.
What it is
Rewarding genuine relaxed behaviour — not a forced position or frozen stillness.
Why we created it
Relaxation you reward, rather than demand, is more likely to be real.
Goal
Moments of genuine relaxation your dog chooses.
Before you begin
You’ll need
- A quiet, familiar place.
- A mat or bed only if your dog likes it.
- A calm, non-startling reward.
What you’ll do
Your first session
- Calmly reward soft, relaxed behaviour when you see it.
- Let your dog change position or leave.
- Finish before it turns into pressure.
Things to notice
- Soft, relaxed body language.
- Whether your dog chooses to stay or move.
When to stop or get help
- Stillness from distress, restraint, shutdown or exhaustion is not the goal.
- New or persistent restlessness, night waking, breathing, pain, cognitive or medication concerns need veterinary attention rather than more practice.
About this guide
Don’t insist on a stay or a duration. There is no universal time target.
Low-intensity guide suitable for most healthy dogs.
Adapted into plain language from Nara’s prepared protocol material. It is general information, not a diagnosis or veterinary prescription, and it doesn’t report trial results.
