You’ll need

• The setup that already worked: same reward, materials, area and access.
• Reward food that fits your dog’s diet and is counted in the day.

Your first session

1. Recreate the familiar successful setup.
2. Let your dog search, and leave, freely.
3. Repeat it until it is reliably easy.
4. Then change only one thing, and keep the easier setup ready to return to.

Things to notice

• Engagement.
• Help needed and frustration.
• Recovery afterwards.

• If things deteriorate, simplify or stop.
• Never force participation. Guarding or bite risk is not a normal challenge.
• Any feeding or activity instructions from your veterinarian still apply.
