Gentle Food Transition

Moving between two complete diets through measured mixed stages, guided by how your dog tolerates it.

What it is

Moving between two complete diets through measured mixed stages, guided by how your dog tolerates it.

Why we created it

Going at your dog’s pace, rather than by the calendar, is gentler on digestion.

Goal

A comfortable switch to the new food.

Before you begin

You’ll need

  • Your current and target foods, identified.
  • A note of mixture amounts and units.
  • Any veterinary plan to hand.

What you’ll do

Your first session

  1. Write down the actual mixture amounts you use.
  2. Make gradual changes within any veterinary plan.
  3. Track stool, appetite, vomiting and intake.
  4. If things worsen slightly, hold or slow down and keep the last tolerated mixture.

Things to notice

  • Stool quality.
  • Appetite and intake.
  • Vomiting.

When to stop or get help

  • Significant or persistent stomach upset, appetite loss, blood, signs of illness or dehydration need veterinary advice.
  • Don’t alter a therapeutic diet without your care team.
