What it is
Helping a mildly hesitant dog explore new places through choice and the freedom to retreat.
Why we created it
We designed this routine around choice, manageable novelty and an easy retreat.
Goal
Calm curiosity, at a distance your dog chooses.
Before you begin
You’ll need
- A quiet setting with clear exits.
- A well-fitted lead and harness.
- Suitable rewards.
What you’ll do
Your first session
- Let your dog watch from a comfortable distance.
- Allow them to approach or move away.
- Reward calm curiosity without luring them into something overwhelming.
- Keep distance under your control.
Things to notice
- Willingness.
- Distress.
- Recovery.
When to stop or get help
- Never block retreat or force closeness.
- Severe fear, serious aggression, bite risk or a clinical concern needs professional support.
About this guide
Coping with one outing isn’t proof of confidence everywhere.
Progress gradually and pause if your dog shows discomfort or reluctance.
Adapted into plain language from Nara’s prepared protocol material. It is general information, not a diagnosis or veterinary prescription, and it doesn’t report trial results.
