Movement
Balance & Body Awareness
A small, voluntary task: one easy step backwards on level, stable, non-slip flooring.
What it is
A small, voluntary task: one easy step backwards on level, stable, non-slip flooring.
Why we created it
A tiny, controlled movement builds body awareness without balance equipment or height.
Goal
A willing, controlled backward step, at your dog’s own pace.
Before you begin
You’ll need
- Level, stable, non-slip flooring.
- A clear, safe space your dog can leave.
What you’ll do
Your first session
- Invite one easy backward step only where your dog can do it comfortably.
- Reward a willing, controlled movement.
- Pause or stop rather than push — never physically force the step.
- Note footing, evenness and tiredness, and comfort the next day.
Things to notice
- Footing and symmetry.
- Tiredness.
- Next-day comfort.
When to stop or get help
- Pain or limping, neurological concerns, risk of falling, or rehabilitation needs — get professional input.
- No wobble boards, raised platforms or unstable surfaces.
- Any feeding or activity instructions from your veterinarian still apply.
About this guide
Confidence alone isn’t a reason to make it harder.
Progress gradually and pause if your dog shows discomfort or reluctance.
Adapted into plain language from Nara’s prepared protocol material. It is general information, not a diagnosis or veterinary prescription, and it doesn’t report trial results.
